caricatures

I have always been involved with many forms of applied arts such as illustration, comics and caricatures. The latter as a simplified derivation of portraits, which I have done as a way of living, in Montmartre, when I was a student in Paris. I think that in all these forms of images the anecdote prevails, the linear cognitive content targeting mainly the left hemisphere of the brain – in contrast to what happens in the Grand Art, where it is the plastic body that dictates its laws, as well as a vision of the whole, allowing deep and complex contents, with its ambiguities and contradictions. It is interesting to see so many popular painters and sculptors nowadays, no longer reviving illustrations, comics and cartoons but acting within the areas of commercial parodies and decorative use of mass culture, in the forms of graffiti, sculptures and paintings.
